Meet Leslie Hamlett, ND
I’ve been so lucky to serve so many lovely women in Portland. As soon as I graduated from NUNM, I opened Canyon Medical Center, a bustling naturopathic family medicine clinic and birth center with my husband and colleague. Women’s health, midwifery and pediatrics have been my main focus. Watching women grow into their roles as mothers and watching babies grow into kindergarteners never gets old.
Over the years, I’ve been attracting the same type of patient: a woman who recognizes it is time to take care of herself. We are overworked. We are spread too thin. We are weary. We’ve forgotten how to say no. Our boundaries have evaporated. We’ve forgotten who we are. And all of these things have begun affecting our health: we’re getting acne again, we are anxious, we have insomnia, we can’t lose weight, our hair is thinning, we’re wired but tired, and it’s only Monday.
Many of us out there hustling in life have some form of adrenal dysregulation, hormone imbalance and mood instability. I enjoy getting to the root cause of these issues and mapping out a plan to re-balance each system. Despite our similar complaints, no two people are the same. This is the beauty of naturopathic medicine: it is individualized and the investigation into your symptoms and plan that is created is specific only to you.
One of my main interests is pelvic floor health. I’ve been very successful treating complaints such as pain, incontinence and sexual dissatisfaction with Holistic Pelvic Care ô, a gentle internal massage technique that restores balance and enhances circulation in the pelvic floor. I also pay special attention to the core muscles and help women learn how to re-integrate these two structures, since the core and the pelvic floor go hand in hand. The only advice so many of us have ever been given to address these issues is to do Kegels. But did you know that Kegels could be causing more damage? I’d love to talk to you about this. And as is the case with any medical issue, resolution of symptoms and cure are best achieved when treatment modalities are layered. I am thrilled to offer PRP Vaginal Rejuvenation to my clients as another tool to heal concerns in the pelvic floor.
I’m also proud to address another aspect of women’s health: aesthetic medicine. Aesthetic medicine sometimes gets a bad rap, or women feel like they shouldn’t talk about it for fear of sounding vain. But there is no vanity in caring about your appearance. In fact, it is healthy to do so. And if you’ve put in the work to balance your hormones, optimize your digestion and sleep, and you’ve settled into a sustainable workout routine, then you likely want to look as good as you feel. When we feel good about how we look, we are happier, more motivated and participatory in life.
Offering aesthetic medicine allows me to fully address women’s health. Most of us just want to look healthy, refreshed and happy. While there is always work to be done on the inside, sometimes there’s work to do on the outside, too. I’d love to talk to you about how you feel, on the inside and outside, and come up with a treatment plan that will help you achieve your goals. Incredible things happen when women support each other. Let’s do this.
